This page keeps a record of a variety of comments made by the creators via official channels. These are not interviews, but the little notes in the volumes and magazine. Wherever possible, official translations of these comments are shown. However, some volumes are yet to be translated, and are thus fan translated by me. See more on that here. Comments officially translated are presented without commentary, and comments fan translated are marked with **.

Nishi Sensei Comment

In the collected volumes of Ichi the Witch, some chapters have comments from Nishi giving additional details about the story. These range from in universe details to behind the scenes info and such.

Volume 1 - Chapter 2	イチが３日寝てたことに驚き散らかしてるのは小さな物音でもすぐに起きられる自分があったため「一度も起きなかったのか！？俺が！？」	Ichi's stunned that he was out for three days because he's a light sleeper who typically wakes up at the slightest noise. That's why he's like, "I didn't wake up even once?!"
Volume 1 - Chapter 3	.	Apparently, foxes have some kind of sense that lets them detect prey underneath the snow. They also realize their hunts are more successful when they jump to the northeast. It hasn't been confirmed, but, uhhh...let's just say that, in this world, all foxes are great at jumping to the northeast... ::cough::
Volume 1 - Chapter 5	ウロロが引っ込んでるのは魔女協会が「魔女臭い」から。	Uroro isn't out because the association building "stinks of witches."
Volume 1 - Chapter 6	ボカスカしてますが魔法は持ち主に危害は与えられず、魔法もほぼ気体みたいなもんたのでお互いペチペチしてだけ。	They may look like they're brawling, but Majiks are incapable of harming their hosts. They also don't really have much corporeal mass, so that "brawl" is just a bunch of wiffing.

Volume 2 - Chapter 8	ここでデスカラスが村の周りに結界を張っています。氷鮫が逃げないようにと、これ以上氷が外へ広がらないようにです。優秀。	This is where Desscaras puts up a barrier around the village to keep the Hisame Majik from escaping and prevents the damage from spreading. She really is elite.
Volume 2 - Chapter 9		The Inazuri Knife image I was going for here is basically a lightsaber. Yes, Ichi is in the shark's belly, but I figure cutting up tht huge of a creature is still going to take a lot of power. Burning through it seemed like the only way. I guess that means the sashimi boat was also actually seared sashimi.
Volume 2 - Chapter 10		Minakata's name was inspired by the Shinto god Takeminakata-no-kami, at the Suwa Grand Shrine. He's the patron of hunting and fishing. Minakata the human is huge and bashful.
Volume 2 - Chapter 10		The village girl Chrissy was inspired by the movie Jaws. I'm glad you were rescued, Chrissy.
Volume 2 - Chapter 12		Kumugi is both a little annoyed and a lot flattered that Ichi's relying on her.

Volume 3 - Chapter 17		I went to a park, found a stick, and actually tried jabbing myself in the palm with it. It really hurt! Don't point sharp sticks at people, okay?
Volume 3 - Chapter 18		Wasn't it nice of Golconda to stick the World-Hater's body back together for him? I think they're one of the sweetest characters in this series.
Volume 3 - Chapter 21		One of Togeice's preferred drinks is the "magic gin buck." In Japanese cocktail langauge, a gin buck means "rightous heart."
Volume 3 - Chapter 21		Togeice proceeds to get lost, confusing the restroom door with the exit.
Volume 3 - Chapter 23		It looks pitiful there, but this is a Majik that used its inner balloons to lure humans (particularly children) close enough to pounce on. It's a nasty piece of work that deserves no sympathy.

Volume 4 - Chapter 27	多分、別に喜ばない。	I doubt they'd care. (Note: The image for this comment is Bakugami wondering if making a bouquet of heads would make the World-Hater happy. Not paticularly.
Volume 4 - Chapter 29	魔法具拡声器。より多くの人の耳へ声をお届け。中々にうるさいので緊急時以外使用不可。（今回はデスカラスが許可済み）	Ichi's using a magic item for amplifying voices. A lot more people can hear, but it's so loud it's use is forbidden outside of emergency situations. (Desscaras got permission ahead of time.)
Volume 4 - Chapter 30	なんとかしてバクガミを外に出そうと奮闘するゴルコンだちゃん。可愛いですね。	Goldconda is trying so hard to get Bakugami out. It's adorable.
Volume 4 - Chapter 31	このルーレット。はなからリチア以外には針は止まりません。ゴクラクとクソ魔女の表記は単なる飾り。看板に偽りアリ。	Yeah. This roulette wheel. It's fake. It would never stop on anything but Richia's name. The "Gokuraku" and "Dumb Witch" parts are mere decoration. The whole thing is totally false advertising.

Volume 5 - Chapter 35	ヤツカミは海の向こうの土地に縄をかけて引っ張ったという「国引き神話」の八束水臣津野命からモチーフをいただいております。締めることと引っ張ることが大好きな、ちょっぴり大きな龍さんです。
Volume 5 - Chapter 36	このシーンを鏡で見ながら、自分が止めに入るべきか否か…。デスカラスはハラハラしながら見ています	** While watching this scene through the mirror, Desscaras wondered if she should intervene or not... She was anxious the entire time.
Volume 5 - Chapter 41	小さい頃からやんちゃなのはリチアの方。よく物を壊すので、泣きつかれてゴクラクが直してあげていました。ゴクラクの初めての共犯者はリチアですね。	** Since they were little, Richia's always been a mischievous kid. She would frequently break things, then cry and beg Gokuraku to fix them. Gokuraku's first accomplice was Richia.
Volume 5 - Chapter 42	合ってない。	** They did not. (TL Note: The image for this comment is Bakugami thinking about meeting the World-Hater for the first time and getting all flustered over their eyes meeting. They did not.)

Volume 6 - Chapter 44	金物やの寡黙店主。首を縦に振るか横に振るかで接客をしている基本喋らない店主のおじさん。１見る目があるねおじさん２お話しにもならないねおじさん

Volume 6 - Chapter 47	今度はあなたがクーキーを食べる番。	** This time, it's your turn to eat the cookies. (TL Note: The image for this comment is Spica giving Kumugi cookies while she gets a cake, and Kumugi giving Spica her cookie gift.)
Volume 6 - Chapter 52	大好きなドラマ「古畑任三ろう」に出てくる言葉です。己の力を過信しないと同時に肩の力が抜ける素敵な言葉。	** This is a line from a drama I like called "Furuhata Ninzaburō". Not overestimating one's own power, but at the same time, relieving tension. It's a wonderful phrase.

Volume 7 - Chapter 53	ミネルヴァお気に入りの赤いコップ。記念日などに使う。ミネルヴァは食器が好きなのでたまに港へ降りては魚を売ったりしてお金を稼ぎ食料や食器か買う。	** The red cups are Minerva's favourite. She bought them for an anniversary or the like. Minerva likes tableware, so occasionally, she heads down to the harbour to sell fish, and uses the earnings to buy food and tableware.
Volume 7 - Chapter 57	「うん」とは言わない。	** He didn't say "yes." (TL Note: The image for this comment is Uroro grinning in response to Kizashi asking to be best friends.)
Volume 7 - Chapter 59	「ほほー」ゴクラク「ヒャー」クムギ「さすがミィちゃん」デスカラス	** Gokuraku: "Oh hoh!" Kumugi: "Waah!" Desscaras: "Nice going, Minnie." (TL Note: The image for this comment is Chronoweaver and Minerva kissing.)
Volume 7 - Chapter 61	通信鏡越しにこの場面を釘付けで見ているミィちゃん。心の中で「好き」の大喝采。	** Minnie was glued to the communications mirror watching this scene. From the depths of her heart, she cheered "I love you!"

Volume 8 - Chapter 65	「お互いの額くっつける」イカルガの民たちの間で約束お意味する行為です。	** "Putting both of your foreheads together." Among the Ikaruga people, doing this has the meaning of a "promise".
Volume 8 - Chapter 68	ミネルヴァは小柄で童顔ですが、生贄にされた当時で大体20歳くらい。過疎化で進んでいる村の中で、 20歳はかなり若い方なのです。	** Minerva had a small build and childlike face, but at the time she was asked to be the human sacrifice, she was about 20 years old. The population was steadily decreasing in the village, so 20 was fairly young in this instance.
Volume 8 - Chapter 68	この時イチのマジックサークルにて行われていのは「意識争奪ビーチフラッグ大会」イチとウロロ、どっちが身体の意識を取るか。正々堂々と言いつつ、スタートと同時にウロロがイチに砂で目潰ししたり、イチが縄でウロロを縛り上げたり、色々あった末にイチが帰ってきました。割愛しました。	** At this time, in Ichi’s Magic Circle, the "Struggle for Consciousness Beach Flag Race” was taking place. Ichi or Uroro, which will gain control of the body? It was said to be a fair and square race, but the second it started: Uroro threw sand in Ichi’s eyes, Ichi tied up Uroro with a rope, and a variety of things occured until eventually, Ichi returned the victor. Details omitted for brevity.

Volume 9 - Chapter 72	「望」・「円」これらはどちらも「まどか」と読みます。ミネルヴァと時操の望みと家族という円を象徴する響きを持っている名前です。	** Both “望” (meaning hope/desire), and “円” (meaning circle/entirety), can be read as “Madoka”. It’s a name that that reflects Minerva and Chrono’s wish for their family to always be a complete circle.
Volume 9 - Chapter 74	デスカラスの輸送。アリアドネを使用して箒に固定しています。乗る人間が増えた上に蜘蛛の糸でぐるぐる巻かれたので箒は怒りましたが、イチの「燃やすぞ」の一言により渋々大人しくなりました。	** How Desscaras was transported. Ariadne was used to tie her onto the broom. The broom got angry that more humans were getting on it, and that it was getting wound up in spider thread, but Ichi simply said, “I’ll burn you.”, and with those words alone it reluctantly behaved.
Volume 9 - Chapter 75	シラベドンナの管轄は研究であり、医療は専門外。なので基本的に手術等に立ち会うことは滅多にありません。魔女を動かすにはたくさんの許可や相談が必要です。なのに好き勝手する魔女が多いのでマネーゴールドが苦労します。	** Shirabedonna’s jurisdiction is research, medical care is out of her expertise. Because of this, she’s rarely present to attend to basic surgeries and procedures like this. Getting witches to take action requires a lot of permission and approval. Despite this, there are a lot of witches who just do as they please, which troubles Moneygold.
Volume 9 - Chapter 76	班ごとに割り当てられている共用の大部屋。基本的には班員しか使用できません。ミーティングをしたりだらだらしたり、班によって使い方は様様。インテリアや内装は班長の趣味ですが、班員の私物やお土産などを置いてもOK。デスカラス班室はデスカラスの物がとても多い。	** Teams are each assigned a common use large room. Basically, only team members can use it. It can be used for things like holding meetings or lazing around, it’s up to each team’s individual way of doing things. The interior design is up to the team leaders preferences, however team members are allowed to bring in personal belongings or keepsakes. Team Desscaras’s team room has a lot of Desscaras’s things.

Volume 1	In Japanese, a witch is a majo, or a magical woman. I wondered why there weren't any magical men. And from that thought there was born a certain feral boy! I hope you enjoy the series.	This is volume 1 of Ichi the Witch! I hope you enjoy the journey along with Ichi, his friends, and the Majiks.
Volume 2	I said, "It'll only be for chapter 4, I swear!" And then, "Please! You have to make them gloriously fabulous!" Well, they showed up again in this volume. Please let me take this opportunity to offer my sincerest apologies to Usazaki Sensei.	The more the story heats up and the greater the demand for super, highly detailed character designs and action sequences in each chapter goes up, the more hyped I am to get the rough drafts. I've turned into one of those modest, reserved people who's happy even when suffering.
Volume 3	Speaking of shakujo staves, I'm paticularly fascinated by the mystery of the one that was found at the top of Mount Tsurugi. Maybe there really are things out there beyond human understanding. Just thinking about it gives me shivers.	Volume 3! Every week is fun because I get to challenge myself to draw things I'm not sure I can that well. Nothing feels better than that moment when you see all of your preparation and hard work pay off.
Volume 4	Everyone does a lot of fighting in this volume. I hope you'll wave flags and cheer them on! Shut up, stupid Bakugami!	I do all the art for Ichi the Witch on an iPad Pro, so technically I can work from just about anywhere. But I still mostly stay at home and don't really go outside.
Volume 8	** Jikishirone’s prophecy pose looks kinda like she's praying. I love it!	** I’m not good at skate boarding or snowboarding, so I think I’d be pretty bad at riding a Comet too. Let’s both strengthen our cores together, Kumugi…
Volume 9	** The conclusion of the Demonic Seas arc. Please read it until the end.	** I want to find some place I can be alone and relax. Wherever you go in the city, there’s other people.
